Chapter 5 is a breather. Hinao finds Char a new jacket, Char collapses from hunger, and Chihiro ends up driving her around Tokyo for a three-stop food tour – a sandwich, an ice cream and a milkshake. It is the funniest Chihiro has been so far.
Meanwhile Shiba questions Cylinder Head, the Daruma sorcerer from the last two chapters, in an empty warehouse. He only gets one warning: the power behind this is far greater than you can fathom.
Then the chapter cuts to a bath high above Tokyo, and the man in the water finally gets a name: Genichi Sojo, a weapons dealer who controls Japan – and the man who holds Cloud Gouger. In the car, Char says the line that defines the chapter: today, I'm happy. And at a red light, the street itself starts to twist.
